Open terminal with custom profile, create link and add to dock (mac)

This is useful in case you often use mac terminal with different (color) profiles, e.g. one for ssh to another machine, one for local.

  1. with normal Terminal on mac, choose profile, mess with colors or what not.
  2. In menu: Shell -> Export Settings. This saves a .terminal file for you to execute
  3. Since mac’s dock cannot add .terminal file, change previous file’s extension from .terminal to .app.
  4. Drag link to Dock
  5. Rename file’s extension back from .app to .terminal

Repeat for other profiles. But they all now have ugly (and the same) icon in Dock. So:

  1. Go on google or whatever, find the image you want, and do “Copy Image”
  2. “Get Info” on each .terminal file
  3. Click on icon. Control + v to paste in the image you copied to your clipboard

The change to the icon should be reflected in the Dock.
